I’ve seen many nice looking low budget kitchen upgrades in my thirty years of cabinet building. To succeed at remolding this way you just need a couple of ideas that look good, but don’t cost a lot of money. I’m going to give you one proven way to make your cupboards look better without spending a ton of cash.

If your kitchen has flat Formica cabinet doors or older painted wood, you can spruce them up by adding some decorative molding around the edges. The only things you really need to be cautions about is the positioning of the molding in relation to how they open.

It may be necessary to inset the fancy trim an inch or so from the edges of the doors so that they will open without any problem. You can paint or stain the molding prior to attaching it onto the cupboard doors. Low Budget Kitchen Cabinet Door Remodeling

Should Cabinet Handles Be Installed Vertical or Horizontal

May 20th, 2010 No comments

How should the pulls get fastened on cupboard doors? If your kitchen cabinet handles get installed vertical on the doors, does it look right when the drawer pulls are horizontal? Which one is easier to grab onto? What’s the most popular way of installing them. I’ll answer these questions and address the pros and cons of both options.

There’s really no wrong or right way for the decorative pull to be fastened onto the cabinet door. It’s going to resolve down to personal preference.

I will tell you that the most popular direction is mounting them horizontally. My observation comes from over thirty years of being in the cabinetry industry. This is a standard question when we fabricate our Formica cabinets; “do you want the handles to be like this or the other way?” Without question, the popular answer is vertically.
