If you are planning on installing your own cabinets and laminate top in your kitchen, the countertop parts can be purchased from a local super center. Places like Lowe’s or Home Depot have plenty of selections to choose from. If you are not in a hurry, your best option is to have the tops custom made to fit your kitchen or bathroom project. This will be a decision that you will have to make in relation to how complex the design is in your kitchen.

Tools needed for Installing a Laminate Countertop

2) Square
3) Drill and assortment of accessories such as drill-bits and driver bits.
4) Pencil
5) Skill or saber saw
6) Masking tape

The first thing that needs to be done is the counter to needs to be cut to the correct size on the square end. Never attempt to cut the miter joint in the corners. These angle cuts must be done in the factory.

Place the counters into their positions on top of the cabinets and see how well they fit to the walls. Make sure that the overhang in the front of the cabinets is the same distances from the front edge of the cabinets at both ends of the top your working on.

Now with a marker start at the widest void area on the top of the backsplash and trace a line following the contour of the walls. Here is a video explaining how to scribe a base cabinet to the floor that will help educate you as to what I am talking about.

Next, sand off the excess on the backsplash to the line, so that it will fit to the wall shape.

Now you’re ready to start installing the kitchen laminate counters.

Place the countertops into their position and use some type of clamp to hold them in place. Determine the length screws that you will need to secure to plastic laminate tops to the cabinets.

Pre-drill holes through the cabinet parts and screw the countertops fast to the cabinets.
