What to Expect When Recovering Plastic Laminate Cabinets

December 30th, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Here are a few things that you can expect to encounter when resurfacing cabinets. These recovering tips come from my twenty eight years of kitchen, office and bathroom vanity cabinet and countertop manufacturing experience. Our company has recovered many kitchens and bathroom areas with Formcia.

One myth about this process is that the old plastic laminate needs to be stripped off of the cabinetry or countertops. This is not true. Only in extreme cases where the Formica is loose all over, due to faulty manufactures glue, is it necessary to remove all of the plastic laminate from the board’s surfaces.

So, what should I expect when my kitchen or bathroom cabinets are being re-laminated with new plastic laminate?

1) This is going to be a very messy job.

2) There are going to be many dust particles floating in the air.

3) The odors are going to be intense at times.

4) All of the local areas around the cabinets are going to have a lot of plastic laminate chips on them.

5) The floor is going to have a lot of small laminate particles on it.

The main points are that you can expect that this is going to be messy, stinky, dirty, and dusty.

It is my recommendation that you read this article we have called, Things to know About Resurfacing Cabinets . In it you will find a much more detailed article explaining the entire process of getting your kitchen or bathroom cabinets resurfaced.

If the cabinet recovering company does their job correctly, the customer should have a very detailed understanding of what to expect before, during and after the cabinet resurfacing job is complete.
