Cupboard Drawer Organizers-For cluttered cabinet spaces

September 7th, 2009 No comments

If you’re looking for a way to get creative with your cupboard junk drawer, there are reasonably priced organizers that can be inserted into the slide out box to help rearrange your life. Getting the junk cleaned out is the biggest challenge, because these catch all places in the cabinets get very overloaded with stuff.

Cluttered areas in your kitchen, office and bathroom vanity cabinetry drawers can be organized by purchasing several small plastic or wire baskets from a store like Wal-mart or Target.

You have to start by pitching all of the junk. It’s important to just have no mercy in this stage. If you look at something and right away realize that it is an important item to keep then put it in a categorized pile. You should have various piles, one pile for electronic connectors, another pile for pens and pencils and so on. The most important part about installing organizers for your cupboard drawers is pitching the clutter into the trash can.

I mean if you have had a sowing thimble in the drawer for over two years and never used it, pitch that sucker! If you’re hanging onto promotional things like key-chains, pin on campaign buttons for shirts or things like old radios that don’t work, pitch them in the trash.

You’re never going to get your cupboards organized if you try to keep most of the things that have cluttered your cupboard drawers.

Once you have cleared out and narrowed down the items in your cluttered cabinet drawer space that you are going to keep, start placing the items in the small wire or plastic baskets that you purchased. Place them inside of the drawer in an organized fashion.

Now, before putting anything else in the drawer ever again look at the item and decide if you are really going to use it ever. If not pitch in the trash or give it to someone else who can use it.

One Side of Cabinet Drawer Hits Before the Other

August 14th, 2009 No comments

How can you fix a cabinet drawer when one side hits and the other one does not. This usually happens when the cabinet is racked because the installer did not take the proper amount of time to install the kitchen or bathroom cabinetry plumb, level and square. When the box has a twist in it there is no way that the drawer, which was originally manufactured square and installed correctly in the cabinet, can close properly. So how do you adjust a kitchen cabinet drawer that is not clos8ing properly? There are a couple of solutions to this problem. read One Side of Cabinet Drawer Hits

Installing Cam Locks on Cabinet Drawers

May 11th, 2009 No comments

The process of installing cam locks on your desk or office cabinet drawers can be challenging. I’m going to offer several tips that will make the drawer cam lock installation an easier task to undertake.

Some things you need to know right up front, if your dealing with file drawers, make sure the locking mechanism and strike plates do not interfere with the file tabs.

The best advices I can give are measure three times or more and drill your holes once. Do not drill the hole for the drawer cam lock installation point unless you are absolutely certain that you have made all of your calculations correctly.

There are several options that you can configure for the locks striking bar to interlock with. These are referred to as strike plates.

A strike plate will be attached to the cabinet rail. When the drawer is closed and the lock is turned the flat metal piece on the lock will interconnect with an L-shaped piece of metal that is attached to the rail. This L-shaped unit is the strike plate. They can be purchased from cabinet supply companies or fabricated from ½” x ½” L-bar aluminum. read article Drawer Cam Lock Installation

Remove File Drawer

April 16th, 2009 No comments

Releasing or figuring out how to remove a file drawer is even difficult for professional cabinet makers. We pull, push, lift and then look for a way of getting the cabinet component to come out of the box. Every manufacture has developed their own release mechanism which makes their patent different from the others.  Basically, what you’re looking for is some type of plastic tab to either push-up or down on. Sometimes it is necessary to lift up on the drawer as you are pushing the plastic release tab in or pulling it out. If there is no tab to be found, you will have to continue moving it around into various positions as you pull on it. Not long ago, I encountered a full extension slide where the two components were actually held together by screws. The only way to get them apart was to read article Remove File Drawer

Using "L" bar works great for hanging file folders.

Using "L" bar works great for hanging file folders.

Here are two of the easiest ways to make a cabinet file drawer system for hanging folders. One is by using “L” bar aluminum or U-channel and the other is by purchasing a ready- made rack to use as the support. If you’re fabricating your office cabinetry from scratch, please refer to our article explaining how to figure drawer sizes. If you already have existing office cabinetry and they did not come equipped with the necessary parts that you need, one of these two methods may be just what you’re looking for. Many of the custom cabinet manufacturing companies use the L-bar or U-channel method because it is an economical way to manufacture a quality product that supports a lot of weight. If you’re looking for a quick set up for hanging your Pendaflex folders, it will be faster read article Making a Cabinet File Drawer

Easy Way To Apply New Drawer Faces On Kitchen Cabinets

January 29th, 2009 No comments

Here is an easy way to apply, fasten or install new cabinet drawer faces on old kitchen, vanity or laundry room cabinets. I think you will agree that this method of installing the new fronts is the fastest and easiest way to accomplish the task. Please take note this short cut only applies to drawers that have a front, sides, bottom and back. Some of the newer styles are manufactured with metal sides and the actual decorative face is screwed on with small mounting plates. This type of installation, that I am referring to in this article, will require that the roll out is an actual box having a front that you screw the face piece to.

What Are The Best Full Extension Drawer Slides

January 27th, 2009 No comments

There are several different styles but the best full extension set of file drawer slides, I have ever used, are from a company called KV or Knape & Vogt. Don’t be fooled by imitations and I also would recommend not believing sales people when they say they have a generic brand from some foreign country that is just as good. Not true my friend. Let me just start by saying that the KV 8400 series is a great all around full extension, ball bearing, drawer slide, but if you really want to install the best you will have to invest a little more. read article What Are The Best Full Extension Drawer Slides
