Now, we accidentally gouged the countertop. To fix your scratch today, you’re going to need a couple of things and they are a tube of SeamFill that is color matched to your countertop, SF 99 Solvent Cleaner, a Kampel polish putty knife, a screw driver to open up the can of solvent, a little scrap piece of cardboard in order to mix the SeamFil on and a roll of paper towels for clean up. There are several ways to repair a water damaged area on a plastic laminate countertop where liquids have seeped through the seam and caused the particle board to swell underneath. The methods used to repair the raised spots are going to vary depending upon the style of counter top that you have. All laminate counters are not manufactured the same way; so there are various solutions to this problem. The design of your kitchen and the extent of the damage will determine the way that the repair will have to be done.

Is your Formica countertop in need of repair over or near the dishwasher due to rising steam creating damage? Is the underside of the top in this area particleboard? If so, it’s absorbing moisture and the flake-board is breaking down and coming apart. When you run your finger along the edge underneath, do pieces of chipboard fall to the floor as the press board crumbles?
